Tehran (ecoideal) – Iran’s Mahan Air announced the launch of direct flights between Tehran and Barcelona in line with the strategy of expanding its international flight network in order to serve more Iranians and domestic and foreign passengers.
Mahan Air’s direct flight between Tehran-Barcelona began on Thursday following a ceremony attended by officials from the two countries, Mahan Air’s marketing manager and head of Europe Operations Hossein Hosseini said.
“The direct flights from Tehran to Barcelona and vice versa will reduce traveling time from 12-15 hours to only six hours,” he added.
“We are also trying to launch direct flights to Madrid in the near future,” Spain’s Ambassador to Iran Eduardo Lopez Busquets said in February in a meeting held in Tehran with the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Zahra Ahmadipour.
“20,000 Iranians traveled to Spain during the last year. Establishing direct flights will considerably increase the exchange of tourists from both countries,” Busquets added.
According to the Mahan Air’s officials, Tehran- Barcelona flights will operate twice a week by a modern Airbus A340 aircraft.
