TEHRAN (ecoideal)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phúc in a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday underlined the need for broadening of bilateral relations in different fields, specially in economy and banking areas.
During the meeting in the Vietnamese capital today, Larijani and Nguyen explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating mutual cooperation in economic and trade fields.
"Tehran and Hanoi should make progress in economic cooperation as they have already done in political ties for 45 years," the Iranian parliament speaker said during the meeting.
He underlined that Iran and Vietnam should make use of the experiences gained from bilateral ties since 1973.
The Vietnamese prime minister, for his part, said that his country respects the traditional and long-lasting ties with Iran.
He pointed to his 2014 visit to Iran, and called for implementation of bilateral agreements in order to boost the current level of trade exchanges.
He also underlined the importance of removal of banking obstacles.
"Vietnam is willing to expand energy, telecommunications, tourism, electricity and transportation relations with Iran," the Vietnamese prime minister said.
In relevant remarks in March 2016, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran and Hanoi have agreed to raise the volume of their trade exchanges to $2bln in the next five years.
"The two countries enjoy very good potentialities that can be developed after the removal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic. We have decided to increase the level of trade transactions, which currently stands at $350mln to $2bln in the next five years,” Rouhani said in a press conference with his visiting Vietnamese counterpart Truong Tan Sang in Tehran.
"We also decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Bank of Iran and Vietnam's Central Bank as the first step to boost cooperation," he added.
Rouhani said Iran and Vietnam are set to forge closer cooperation in the fight against terrorism, adding that the two governments have emphasized the need to closely work together to counter terrorist groups and help settle regional issues in places like Syria and Yemen.
The Vietnamese president, for his part, said regional peace and stability is at risk, calling on the international community to try to promote peace.
He said conflicts should be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law.
