TEHRAN (ECOIDEAL)- The government of Japan decided to grant a multi-million support to four projects in the environment and humanitarian areas in Iran from the place of its supplementary budget in 2017 fiscal year.
According to the report of Japan embassy in Tehran, one million dollars is granted within the framework of the UNDP to revive Orumiyeh Lake through participation of local societies and by implementation of sustainable agriculture and protection of biodiversity.
An aggregate amount of $1.3 million has been allocated within the framework of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as humanitarian aid and support for Afghan refugees in Iran.
Also $500,000 has been allocated through the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in order to confront money-laundering and fight against financial supports for terrorism and Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
Within the framework of the UN-Habitat program, a total amount of $700,000 will be allocated for the evaluation of the existing equipment for reaction against earthquake and execution of work in facing multilateral dangers.
In a relevant development on Monday, Iran’s Ministry of Health and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on mutual cooperation for funding hospital equipment in Iran.
The memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides in Tehran is worth 1.537 billion Japanese yen, equal to approximately USD14 million.
The MoU, which came to fruition after negotiations between Japanese prime minister and Iran’s president on healthcare cooperation, is said to pave the way for the presence of Japan’s modern technology in the Iranian market, in line with meeting the interests of both countries.
The agreement aims to strengthen Iran’s social infrastructures by providing medical equipment, including angiography imaging systems, to Imam Hossein Hospital and Arash Hospital in Tehran, as well as developing services for early diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
In a relevant development in September, JICA signed an MoU with Tehran Air Quality Control Company on supplying the equipment for the measurement and analysis of emissions in the Iranian capital.
An agreement between JICA and Thermal Power Plants Holding Company was also signed a few weeks ago, under which the Japanese side has agreed to allocate $800 million aid to Shahid Mofatteh and Shahid Rajaei power plants.
Formed in 2003, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is chartered with assisting economic and social growth in developing countries, and the promotion of international cooperation.
